Donald Trump Has Absolutely No Idea What He’s Doing

There are many good reasons why Donald Trump should be removed from office: collusion with the Russians, corruption, obstruction of justice, influence peddling and a host of other unsavory criminal activities from the grand to the petty. But let us step back for a moment and consider that there may be another reason, perhaps the most important one of all, that he should not be president: he has absolutely no idea what he is doing.

This man doesn’t have the first clue how anything works. He tried to initiate a business deal with Germany, not understanding that since they were a member of the EU, they could not negotiate separate trade agreements. He believed that a new health care bill would be on his desk awaiting his signature on his first day in office. Trump thinks that gains in the stock market reduce the national debt. He believes trade wars are good and ‘easy to win,’ that government shutdowns are welcomed, and that he can tell the Justice Department who should be investigated and who should get a free pass. Hell, he even thought Frederick Douglass was still alive.

More troubling is the fact that even though he demonstrates his ignorance and his utter lack of qualifications for his position on a daily basis, he shows no interest in trying to learn about anything. He doesn’t read, he skips intelligence briefings, and what little he does know about Washington, he has gotten from Fox and Friends. Trump recently admitted that in an argument over trade deficits with Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, he lied to Trudeau because he had “had no idea” what the real numbers were. And then he laughed about it.

This is all monumentally unacceptable behavior. We live in a fast-paced, highly technological society. Running a government is a complex and multidimensional task. Decisions made by an American president have consequences that affect the world economy and the lives of billions of people. If the President is not up to the challenge, if he is not willing or able to perform his duties in a diligent and serious manner, if he has no interest in even being a leader other than to satiate his own colossal, narcissistic need for attention, then Americans need to demand his ouster.
