What is honor?
Webster’s Dictionary of the English Language lists the word HONOR as:
a noun. It means moral integrity.
It is the esteem accorded to virtue or talent.
It is the conventional respect for a person of high rank or public distinction or for a worthy symbol: “to hold the flag in honor”.
HONOR is an award or distinction; HONORS are awards or special ceremonies to express public respect. For example, in formal invitations, HONOR is a privilege: “to request the honor of someone’s company”. Or the distinction of a person who reflects credit on someone or something, an honor to his country.
In the old fashioned sense, HONOR is a woman’s chastity or good reputation. Honor is also an academic distinction, to pass an examination with honors; the honors program.
Honorable: showing great respect or self-respect, worthy of respect.
To be honorable is being your best.
That same dictionary, Webster’s, lists the definition of the word HONEST as:
“Never deceiving, stealing, or taking advantage of the trust of others
sincere, truthful, “an honest opinion”
sincere in appearance, “an honest face”
obtained by fair means, “honest earnings”
