It\u2019s official: folks are about to fight for American democracy<\/a> before Trump destroys it for good!<\/h3>\n

President Barack Obama has assembled a team of some of his administration\u2019s finest political and legal minds and they\u2019re moving forward.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The group is called United to Protect Democracy<\/a>, with this name itself coming from Obama\u2019s epic farewell address to the nation.\u00a0 The team has already raised nearly $2 million in order to follow through with their plans to beat Trump in the courts.<\/p>\n

The leader of the team, Ian Bassin, is in the same boat as all of us.\u00a0 He believes that we are on an unprecedented march toward tyranny the likes of which the nation has never seen<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen people hear concerns about democracies declining into authoritarianism, they expect that moment to come in a singular thunderclap where everyone can see that this is the time,\u201d\u00a0Bassin said.\u00a0\u201cIn reality, often times, democracies decline over a period of years that happen through a series of much smaller steps.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs people who had the privilege of serving at the highest level of our government, we understand those guardrails,\u201d Bassin said. \u201cWhere people might come up against them and what the tools are that we have as private citizens to hold our government accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harvard legal extraordinaire Yascha Mounk has been providing advice and guidance to Obama\u2019s group in recent days.\u00a0 He\u2019s certain our democracy will fade if we don\u2019t start seriously standing up to the Orange Tyrant.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really important for a bunch of people to shine the light on this question,\u201d Mounk said.\u00a0 \u201cTo make very clear when autocrats are starting in any way to detract from democratic institutions.\u201d<\/p>\n

United to Protect Democracy has already filed 50 Freedom of Information Acts against Team Trump.\u00a0 If Trump won\u2019t tell the world the truth about his abuses<\/a>, then Obama\u2019s best and brightest will make sure he\u2019s forced to.<\/p>\n

The group is also getting itself ready to take Trump to court for whatever his next round of completely unconstitutional actions will be.\u00a0 Trump\u2019s about to have a huge thorn in his side courtesy of the 44th<\/sup> president.<\/p>\n

This kind of citizen action is very inspiring, folks.\u00a0 It shows us that we don\u2019t have to be an elected official in office to make a serious difference in our nation.Our fundamental American values must be preserved, but Trump\u2019s been attacking them left and right.<\/p>\n

If we don\u2019t stand up for our free press now, for example, we won\u2019t have one for much longer.<\/p>\n

The time for action is here, so let United to Protect Democracy be an example for us all.\u00a0 And a hearty thanks to Obama and his team, as they\u2019re a gift that keeps on giving!<\/p>\n

No one knows what the future holds for now. But we all MUST maintain our resolve.<\/p>\n
