To keep everything in one location, here\u2019s an updated summary (so far):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/01\/16\/us\/politics\/donald-trump-russia-business.html\">Trump\u2019s efforts to develop business in Russia<\/a>date to 1987. In 1996,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/01\/16\/us\/politics\/donald-trump-russia-business.html\">he applied for his trademark<\/a>\u00a0in that country.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/01\/16\/us\/politics\/donald-trump-russia-business.html\">Discussing ambitions for a Trump hotel in 2007, he declared<\/a>, \u201cWe will be in Moscow at some point.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Oct.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/TRANSCRIPTS\/0710\/15\/lkl.01.html\">15, 2007<\/a>, Trump said:\u00a0\u201cLook at Putin \u2014 what he\u2019s doing with Russia \u2014 I mean, you know, what\u2019s going on over there. Now, I am in talks with several Russian companies to establish this skyscraper.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Nov.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realdonaldtrump\/status\/399939505924628480?lang=en\">11, 2013, Trump tweeted<\/a>: \u201cTRUMP TOWER-MOSCOW is next.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/thomas-roberts\/watch\/trump-discusses-putin-in-2013-734124099973\">November 2013, Trump said<\/a>: \u201c[Putin\u2019s] done a very brilliant job in terms of what he represents and who he\u2019s represented.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Mar.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/blogs\/washington-whispers\/2014\/03\/06\/donald-trump-peppers-cpac-speeches-with-humblebrags\">6, 2014, Trump said<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cYou know, I was in Moscow a couple of months ago. I own the Miss Universe Pageant and they treated me so great. Putin even sent me a present, a beautiful present.\u201d On the same day,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/e\/eb\/tfs\/spi\/ukrainerussia\/\">President Obama signed an executive order<\/a>imposing sanctions on Russia for its unlawful annexation of Crimea.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2015\/06\/16\/donald-trump-announces-candidacy-for-president.html\">June 16, 2015<\/a>: Trump announces that he is running for president.<\/li>\n<li>Sept.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/donald-trump-gives-russias-putin-an-a-in-leadership\/\">15, 2015, Trump told Bill O\u2019Reilly<\/a>: \u201cI will tell you in terms of leadership he [Putin] is getting an \u2018A,\u2019 and our president is not doing so well.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Nov.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2016-election\/live-blogging-fourth-gop-presidential-debate-9pm-et-n460901?abc=123\">10, 2015, Trump said<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cI got to know [Putin] very well because we were both on\u00a0<em>60 Minutes.<\/em>We were stablemates, and we did very well that night.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Dec. 10, 2015: Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn, who would become Trump\u2019s national security adviser,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2017\/01\/13\/509670980\/trump-team-top-adviser-talked-with-russian-ambassador-before-u-s-hacking-respons\">sat at Putin\u2019s table<\/a>for the 10<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary gala of Russia\u2019s state-owned television propaganda network, RT. Flynn had made a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/checkpoint\/wp\/2016\/08\/15\/trump-adviser-michael-t-flynn-on-his-dinner-with-putin-and-why-russia-today-is-just-like-cnn\/\">paid appearance on the network<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Feb.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?404843-1\/donald-trump-campaign-rally-walterboro-south-carolina\">17, 2016<\/a>: As questions about Russia swirled around Trump, he changed his story: \u201cI have no relationship with [Putin], other than he called me a genius.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>April 20, 2016: Paul Manafort became Trump\u2019s campaign manager. Reports surfaced about his 2007 to 2012 ties to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/the-fix\/wp\/2016\/08\/30\/donald-trump-only-hires-the-best-people-at-generating-unhelpful-headlines\/\">Ukraine\u2019s pro-Putin former president, whom Manafort had helped to elect<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>July 18, 2016:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/global-opinions\/trump-campaign-guts-gops-anti-russia-stance-on-ukraine\/2016\/07\/18\/98adb3b0-4cf3-11e6-a7d8-13d06b37f256_story.html\"><em>The Washington Post<\/em>reported that the Trump campaign worked behind the scenes<\/a>\u00a0ahead of the Republican Convention on a plank of the 2016 Party Platform that gutted the GOP\u2019s longstanding support for Ukrainians\u2019 popular resistance to Russia\u2019s 2014 intervention.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/post-politics\/wp\/2016\/07\/22\/on-eve-of-democratic-convention-wikileaks-releases-thousands-of-documents-about-clinton-the-campaign-and-internal-deliberations\/?utm_term=.69e3c699a00e\">July 22, 2016:<\/a>On the eve of the Democratic National Convention, WikiLeaks released its first trove of emails stolen from the DNC.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/07\/28\/us\/politics\/donald-trump-russia-clinton-emails.html\">July 27, 2016, Trump said<\/a>: \u201cRussia, if you\u2019re listening, I hope you\u2019re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.\u201d At the same press conference, he insisted:\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/thomas-roberts\/watch\/trump-discusses-putin-in-2013-734124099973\">I never met Putin. I\u2019ve never spoken to him<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>July 31, 2016:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/meet-the-press\/trump-chairman-denies-any-role-platform-change-ukraine-n620511\">Manafort denied<\/a>knowing anything about the change in the Republican platform. That afternoon,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CyJU3b610cw\">Boris Epshteyn<\/a>, Trump\u2019s Russian-born adviser, spouted the Kremlin\u2019s party line telling CNN:\u00a0\u201cRussia did not seize Crimea. We can talk about the conflict that happened between Ukraine and the Crimea\u2026 But there was no seizure by Russia. That\u2019s an incorrect statement, characterization, of what happened.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Aug. 6, 2016:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2016\/08\/06\/488876597\/how-the-trump-campaign-weakened-the-republican-platform-on-aid-to-ukraine\">NPR confirmed<\/a>the Trump campaign\u2019s involvement in the Republican platform change on Ukraine.<\/li>\n<li>Aug. 19, 2016: As reports of Manafort\u2019s financial connections to Ukraine intensified, he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/post-politics\/wp\/2016\/08\/19\/trump-campaign-chairman-paul-manafort-resigns\/\">resigned from the Trump campaign<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Oct. 1, 2016: Six days before\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/10\/08\/us\/politics\/hillary-clinton-speeches-wikileaks.html\">WikiLeaks released<\/a>emails that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2017\/01\/06\/us\/politics\/document-russia-hacking-report-intelligence-agencies.html\">Russians hackers<\/a>\u00a0had acquired from Clinton campaign manager John Podesta\u2019s email account, Trump\u2019s informal adviser and surrogate,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rogerjstonejr\/status\/782443074874138624?lang=en\">Roger Stone tweeted<\/a>: \u201cWednesday@HillaryClinton is done. #Wikileaks.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Oct. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realdonaldtrump\/status\/783490959027732484?lang=en\">4, 2016: Trump tweeted<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cCLINTON\u2019S CLOSE TIES TO PUTIN DESERVE SCRUTINY.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Oct. 7, 2016:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2016\/10\/07\/joint-statement-department-homeland-security-and-office-director-national\">In a joint statement<\/a>, the Department of Homeland Security and the Director of National Intelligence said, \u201cThe US Intelligence Community (USIC) is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of e-mails from US persons and institutions, including from US political organizations\u2026 We believe, based on the scope and sensitivity of these efforts, that only Russia\u2019s senior-most officials could have authorized these activities.\u201d But two other stories dominated the news cycle:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.politifact.com\/truth-o-meter\/statements\/2016\/dec\/18\/john-podesta\/its-true-wikileaks-dumped-podesta-emails-hour-afte\/\">WikiLeaks began publishing<\/a>stolen emails from the account of Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, and Trump\u2019s infamous\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/trump-recorded-having-extremely-lewd-conversation-about-women-in-2005\/2016\/10\/07\/3b9ce776-8cb4-11e6-bf8a-3d26847eeed4_story.html?utm_term=.fafce45884cf\"><em>Access Hollywood<\/em>\u00a0tapes<\/a>\u00a0became public.<\/li>\n<li>Oct.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2016-election\/roger-stone-calls-claims-wikileaks-collusion-categorically-false-n665441\">12, 2016: Roger Stone told NBC News<\/a>, \u201cI have back-channel communications with WikiLeaks.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Oct.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/first-read\/trump-has-been-strikingly-consistent-denying-russian-hacking-role-n703866\">19, 2016<\/a>: During the third presidential debate, Trump dismissed the Oct. 7 US intelligence findings: \u201c[Clinton] has no idea whether it is Russia, China or anybody else\u2026 Our country has no idea.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Nov. 9, 2016: After Putin announced Trump\u2019s election victory, Russia\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-elections\/donald-trump-wins-us-election-russia-putin-result-a7406866.html\">Parliament erupted<\/a>\u00a0in applause.<\/li>\n<li>Nov. 10, 2016:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/11\/11\/world\/europe\/trump-campaign-russia.html\">Russia\u2019s deputy foreign minister admitted<\/a>\u00a0that during the campaign, the Kremlin had continuing communications with Trump\u2019s \u201cimmediate entourage.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Dec.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/first-read\/trump-has-been-strikingly-consistent-denying-russian-hacking-role-n703866\">9, 2016<\/a>: In response to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/national-security\/obama-orders-review-of-russian-hacking-during-presidential-campaign\/2016\/12\/09\/31d6b300-be2a-11e6-94ac-3d324840106c_story.html?utm_term=.b069b2e32a4c\"><em>Washington Post\u00a0<\/em>report<\/a>that the CIA had concluded Russia had intervened in the election to help Trump win, he said, \u201cThese are the same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. The election ended a long time ago in one of the biggest Electoral College victories in history. It\u2019s now time to move on and \u2018Make America Great Again.\u2019\u2009\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Dec.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2016\/12\/11\/investing\/rex-tillerson-exxon-russia-putin\/\">11, 2016<\/a>: Trump praised Rex Tillerson, chairman of Exxon Mobil and recipient of Russia\u2019s \u201cOrder of Friendship\u201d Medal from Vladimir Putin in 2013, as \u201cmuch more than a business executive\u201d and a \u201cworld-class player.\u201d Trump said Tillerson \u201cknows many of the players\u201d and did \u201cmassive deals in Russia\u201d for Exxon. Two days later, Trump nominated him to be secretary of state.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/first-read\/trump-has-been-strikingly-consistent-denying-russian-hacking-role-n703866\">Also on Dec. 11, 2016<\/a>: Asked about the earlier US intelligence report on hacking, Trump said, \u201cThey have no idea if it\u2019s Russia or China or somebody. It could be somebody sitting in a bed some place. I mean, they have no idea.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Dec.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/nightly-news\/video\/tillerson-is-gift-for-putin-former-top-russian-minister-says-832305219957\">13, 2016<\/a>: NBC News\u2019 Richard Engel reports from Moscow on Trump\u2019s secretary of state pick, Rex Tillerson. Former Russian Energy Minister Vladimir Milov told Engel that Tillerson was a \u201cgift for Putin.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Dec.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/politics\/wp\/2017\/02\/14\/the-fall-of-michael-flynn-a-timeline\/\">29, 2016<\/a>: On the same day that President Obama announced sanctions against Russia in retaliation for its interference in the 2016 election, national security adviser-designate Lt. Gen. Flynn placed five phone calls to the Russian ambassador.<\/li>\n<li>Dec.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realdonaldtrump\/status\/814919370711461890?lang=en\">30, 2016<\/a>: After Putin made a surprise announcement that Russia would not retaliate for the new sanctions, Trump tweeted, \u201cGreat move on delay (by V. Putin) \u2014 I always knew he was very smart.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Jan.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/816452807024840704\">3<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/816620855958601730\">Jan. 4<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/816999062562107392\">Jan. 5, 2017<\/a>: Trump tweeted a series of attacks on the integrity of the US intelligence community\u2019s findings that Russia had hacked the election.<\/li>\n<li>Jan.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/documents.latimes.com\/read-us-intelligence-report-russian-hacking\/\">6, 2017<\/a>: The CIA, FBI and NSA released their unclassified report, concluding unanimously, \u201cVladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the US presidential election.\u201d The three intelligence agencies agreed that \u201cthe Russian Government aspired to help President-elect Trump\u2019s election chances when possible.\u201d The report also stated that WikiLeaks had been Russia\u2019s conduit for the effort.<\/li>\n<li>Jan.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/01\/11\/us\/politics\/trump-press-conference-transcript.html\">11, 2017<\/a>: At his first news conference, Trump said, \u201cAs far as hacking, I think it was Russia. But I think we also get hacked by other countries and other people.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/01\/11\/us\/politics\/trump-press-conference-transcript.html\">Also on Jan. 11, 2017<\/a>: The final question of Trump\u2019s first news conference\u00a0came from Ann Compton of ABC News: \u201cMr. President-elect, can you stand here today, once and for all, and say that no one connected to you or your campaign had any contact with Russia leading up to or during the presidential campaign?\u201d Trump never answered her. Away from cameras and heading toward the elevators,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KilloughCNN\/status\/819235429467750402\">he reportedly said<\/a>, \u201cNo,\u201d his team didn\u2019t have contact with Russia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Flynn Affair<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jan.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/politics\/wp\/2017\/02\/14\/the-fall-of-michael-flynn-a-timeline\/\">13, 2017<\/a>: In response to\u00a0<em>The Washington Post\u2019<\/em>s article about Flynn\u2019s Dec. 29 conversations with the Russian ambassador, press secretary Sean Spicer said it was only one call. They \u201cexchanged logistical information\u201d for an upcoming call between Trump and Vladimir Putin after the inauguration.<\/li>\n<li>Jan.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/edition\/news\/i-ll-do-a-deal-with-britain-6hl2hl73l\">15, 2017<\/a>: \u201cWe should trust Putin,\u201d Trump told\u00a0<em>The Times<\/em>of London. Expressing once again his skepticism about NATO, Trump lambasted Germany\u2019s Chancellor Angela Merkel.<\/li>\n<li>Jan.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/politics\/wp\/2017\/02\/14\/the-fall-of-michael-flynn-a-timeline\/\">15, 2017<\/a>: Appearing on CBS\u2019s\u00a0<em>Face the Nation<\/em>, Vice President Pence said Flynn\u2019s call to the Russian ambassador on the same day President Obama announced new sanctions was \u201cstrictly coincidental,\u201d explaining: \u201cThey did not discuss anything having to do with the United States\u2019 decision to expel diplomats or impose censure on Russia\u2026. What I can confirm, having spoken with [Flynn] about it, is that those conversations that happened to occur around the time that the United States took action to expel diplomats had nothing whatsoever to do with those sanctions.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Jan.22, 2017: Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn was sworn in as National Security Adviser, a position that did not require Senate confirmation.<\/li>\n<li>Jan.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/02\/14\/us\/politics\/fbi-interviewed-mike-flynn.html\">23, 2017<\/a>: At Sean Spicer\u2019s first press briefing, Spicer said that none of Flynn\u2019s conversations with the Russian ambassador touched on the Dec. 29 sanctions. That got the attention of FBI Director James Comey. According to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/mike-flynn-was-probed-by-fbi-over-calls-with-russian-official-1487123221\"><em>Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a>, Comey convinced Acting Attorney General Sally Yates to delay informing the White House immediately about the discrepancy between Spicer\u2019s characterization of Flynn\u2019s calls and US intelligence intercepts showing that the two had, in fact, discussed sanctions. Comey reportedly asked Yates to wait a bit longer so that the FBI could develop more information and speak with Flynn himself. Every Republican senator and Democrat Joe Manchin of West Virginia voted to confirm him. During the confirmation process,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/02\/14\/us\/politics\/attorney-general-jeff-sessions-russia-inquiries.html\">Sessions had said<\/a>he was \u201cnot aware of a basis to recuse myself\u201d from the Justice Department\u2019s Russia-related investigations of Trump.<\/li>\n<li>Feb.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/national-security\/national-security-adviser-flynn-discussed-sanctions-with-russian-ambassador-despite-denials-officials-say\/2017\/02\/09\/f85b29d6-ee11-11e6-b4ff-ac2cf509efe5_story.html\">9, 2017<\/a>: Through a spokesman, Flynn changed his position: \u201cWhile [Flynn] had no recollection of discussing sanctions, he couldn\u2019t be certain that the topic never came up.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Feb.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/02\/10\/politics\/flynn-russia-us-sanctions-reports\/\">10, 2017<\/a>: Trump told reporters he was unaware of reports surrounding Flynn\u2019s December conversations with the Russian ambassador.<\/li>\n<li>Feb.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/national-security\/justice-department-warned-white-house-that-flynn-could-be-vulnerable-to-russian-blackmail-officials-say\/2017\/02\/13\/fc5dab88-f228-11e6-8d72-263470bf0401_story.html\">13, 2017<\/a>:\u00a0<em>The Washington Post<\/em>broke another story: Then-acting Attorney General Sally Yates had warned the White House in late January that Flynn had mischaracterized his December conversation with the Russian ambassador, and that it made him vulnerable to Russian blackmail. Later that evening, Flynn resigned.<\/li>\n<li>Feb.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/02\/14\/us\/politics\/russia-intelligence-communications-trump.html\">14, 2017<\/a>:\u00a0<em>The New York Times<\/em>corroborated\u00a0the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister\u2019s admission on Nov. 10. Based on information from four current and former American officials,\u00a0<em>The Times<\/em>\u00a0reported, \u201cMembers of the Trump campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior intelligence officials in the year before the election.\u201d Meanwhile, advisers to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/02\/14\/us\/politics\/attorney-general-jeff-sessions-russia-inquiries.html\">Attorney General Jeff Sessions reiterated his earlier position<\/a>: Sessions saw no need to recuse himself from the ongoing Justice Department investigations into the Trump\/Russia connections.<\/li>\n<li>Jan. 15, 2017: Trump tweeted a series of outbursts attacking the Trump\/Russia connection as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/831837514226921472\">non-sense<\/a>,\u201d diverting attention to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/831853862281699331\">un-American<\/a>\u201d leaks in which \u201cinformation is illegally given out by \u2018intelligence\u2019 like candy.\u201d Shortly thereafter, Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz and other\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/house-republicans-seek-investigation-potential-illegal-justice-department\/story?id=45523826\">congressional Republicans<\/a>formally asked the Justice Department\u2019s Inspector General to investigate the leaks, but they and their GOP colleagues resisted the creation of an independent bipartisan commission with the power to convene public hearings and discover the truth about the Trump\/Russia connections.During an afternoon appearance with Israel\u2019s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2017\/02\/15\/514986341\/watch-live-trump-netanyahu-hold-joint-press-conference-at-white-house\">Trump refused<\/a>\u00a0to answer questions about connections between his presidential campaign and Russia. That evening,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/02\/15\/us\/politics\/trump-intelligence-agencies-stephen-feinberg.html?smprod=nytcore-iphone&amp;smid=nytcore-iphone-share&amp;_r=2\"><em>The New York Times\u00a0<\/em>reported<\/a>\u00a0that Trump was planning to appoint Stephen Feinberg, a billionaire hedge fund manager and Trump ally, to lead \u201ca broad review of American intelligence agencies.\u201d Feinberg has no prior experience in intelligence or government, but he has close ties to Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner.<\/li>\n<li>Jan. 16, 2017: Trump continued his diversionary\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mobile.twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/832197515248275456\">twitter assault<\/a>on the intelligence leaks that were fueling intensified scrutiny of his Russia connections. At\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/02\/16\/us\/politics\/donald-trump-press-conference-transcript.html\">Trump\u2019s afternoon press conference<\/a>, he said: \u201cI own nothing in Russia. I have no loans in Russia. I don\u2019t have any deals in Russia\u2026 Russia is fake news. Russia \u2014 this is fake news put out by the media.\u201d Reporters asked repeatedly about anyone else involved with Trump or his campaign. \u201cNo,\u201d Trump said. \u201cNobody that I know of.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keep Sending the Message<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In response to the latest controversy surrounding Mike Flynn and Russia,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/831510532318429184\">Trump tweeted a Valentine\u2019s Day diversion<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cThe real story here is why are there so many illegal leaks coming out of Washington?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No, the real story is the question Trump ducked on Jan. 11 and deflected repeatedly on Feb. 16: What contact did Trump or anyone on his team have with Russia\u00a0<em>before\u00a0<\/em>the US election?<\/p>\n<p>Stay on message. Tell Republicans in Congress that American democracy requires an answer \u2014 under oath \u2014 to Ann Compton\u2019s Jan. 11, 2017 question: \u201cMr. President-elect, can you stand here today, once and for all, and say that no one connected to you or your campaign had any contact with Russia leading up to or during the presidential campaign?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Putin knows the answer. So does the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, who\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/moscow-had-contacts-with-trump-team-during-campaign-russian-diplomat-says\/2016\/11\/10\/28fb82fa-a73d-11e6-9bd6-184ab22d218e_story.html\">said in November<\/a>\u00a0that the Kremlin had maintained continuing communications with Trump\u2019s \u201cimmediate entourage\u201d prior to the election. So do any campaign members and other Trump associates who, according to\u00a0<em>The New York Times<\/em>, had \u201crepeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the American people don\u2019t, and that asymmetry of information could give Putin the power to blackmail the country\u2019s leaders. On Jan. 7,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/meet-the-press\/video\/full-interview-sen-mccain-and-sen-graham-show-no-signs-of-backing-down-on-russia-849931331948\">Sen. Lindsey Graham urged an investigation<\/a>\u00a0\u201cwherever it leads.\u201d A few Republicans want the Senate Intelligence Committee to add the Flynn affair in its ongoing inquiry \u2014 but they\u2019re offering too little, too late. At this point, a credible investigation requires the approach that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2016\/dec\/19\/russia-interference-probe-senators-want-select-com\/\">Sen. John McCain initially proposed<\/a>: a bipartisan commission with subpoena power. American democracy can no longer trust Senate Republicans to run this show. Nor can hearings be conducted secretly.<\/p>\n<p>Congress must authorize a special independent 9\/11-type commission.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/billmoyers.com\/story\/the-trump-resistance-plan-step-2\/\">Step 2 of The Trump Resistance Plan has contact information<\/a>\u00a0and language for messages to Republicans and Democrats in Congress.
